CBD is one of the most searched wellness topics in America, and one of the most misunderstood. Here is a plain-English look at where the law stands.

The 2018 Farm Bill

The 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp from the federal list of controlled substances. Hemp is defined as cannabis containing no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight. Products made from hemp that meet that limit are not federally controlled.

States set their own rules

Federal law is only part of the picture. Each state can add its own rules, and some restrict certain hemp products, particularly inhaled or vaped ones, or set their own age limits. Always check the rules where you live before ordering.

What the FDA says

The FDA has not approved CBD as a dietary supplement or food additive, and it expects brands to avoid disease or treatment claims. That is why you will not see medical promises on our site. Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

How to buy with confidence

  • Buy only from brands that publish independent lab reports (see how to read a COA).
  • Check that the THC level is within the legal limit.
  • Confirm you meet the age limit. We sell to adults aged 21 and over.

Delta-9, delta-8 and other cannabinoids

The 0.3% limit applies to delta-9 THC. Other cannabinoids and hemp-derived compounds are treated differently by different states, and the rules are changing. A product being sold online does not mean it is legal where you live.

Interstate shipping and international orders

Hemp-derived products that meet the federal definition can generally move between states, but carriers have their own rules and some states restrict certain products. If you order from outside the US, you are responsible for checking that the product is legal in your country and for any import duties or taxes.

Why a lab report matters for legality

The only way to know a product sits within the legal THC limit is to read an independent certificate of analysis for the exact batch. Our guide to lab reports shows what to check.

Age restrictions

Many states set a minimum age of 21 for vape and hemp products. We apply a 21+ rule to every order and may ask for proof of age.

Frequently asked questions

Is hemp the same as marijuana?

Both come from the cannabis plant. In US law, hemp is defined by its low delta-9 THC content of no more than 0.3% by dry weight.

Will CBD show up on a drug test?

Our products are tested to be THC-free to below 0.01%, but we cannot guarantee how any individual test will respond. Speak to the testing body if this matters to you.
